About The Artist

Kelsey Debner, Soprano

Kelsey Debner is pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Southwestern University.   In April, she sang the role of Despina in Southwestern’s production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte.  This semester, she was selected to sing in the Southwestern University Soloists Concert based on her jury performance the previous semester.  Kelsey has also earned recognition outside the SU campus.  She was recognized as a national finalist in the 2014 Hal Leonard Vocal Competition.  She has also participated in the South Texas District National Association of Teachers of Singing Auditions, where she placed in the top six finalists for sophomore women this spring.  Kelsey also plays violin in the Southwestern University orchestra.

I have been accepted to Lingua e Canto, a 3-week course combining intensive study of Italian with vocal performance for singers who want to immerse themselves in the country and its culture.  Each day, I will enjoy 3 hours of Italian instruction taught by native speakers who are certified language instructors from the Scuola Italia. I will also receive private voice lessons and coaching, perform opera scenes, and attend career workshops. I will participate in several performances throughout the program and will have the opportunity to travel in Italy as well.  Here is an example of the kind of literature I will be performing at the program:
