I have been presented with the opportunity to direct and assistant direct in a number of Young Artist Programs across the country this summer. Starting at the end of May, I will spend two weeks with New Fangled Opera, a New Orleans based company who specializes in one acts and new opera. New Fangled opera has invited me to direct a new setting of Mozart’s The Impresario and a fantastic new work by David Wolfson called Rapture.

Shortly after returning from New Orleans, I am off to Pittsburgh to participate in Opera Theatre of Pittsburgh’s Young Artist Program, where I will assistant direct their production of The Fantasticks and direct scenes for their guerilla style opera Cocktail Hour. This production of The Fantasticks is being set with a heavy movement focus, giving me the opportunity to work with a Director/Choreographer.

My summer rounds off with a three week experience in Steamboat Springs, Colorado as a Young Artist director for Emerald City Opera’s production of Dido and Aeneas. This will be my second summer with Emerald City Opera, which has in the past given me the opportunity to direct opera scenes, shadow and interact professional opera directors, and attend master classes by accomplished opera singers and coaches.

This summer of travel and directing is an opportunity for more exposure to other directors’ styles, as well as further my exploration of movement and physical theatres’ applications to opera—the focus of my dissertation for the upcoming year.

Your generous tax deductible donations will help me fund and supplement expenses associated with airfare, food, and transportation.
