About The Artist

Abigail Jackson, Soprano

Abigail Jackson will be a senior Vocal Performance Major pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. This past April, she performed the role of Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosí fan tutte with the Southwestern University Opera Theatre. She also gave her junior recital as part of the BM degree. Her recital included works by Purcell, Schubert, Mozart, Berlioz, Marx, Bellini, and Offenbach. This past January she was cast in the Austin Lyric Opera chorus for Tosca. Her debut opera theatre role with Southwestern University was the Plaintiff in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial by Jury in April 2013.

I've recently been accepted into a summer opera workshop in Italy and need help raising funds. Here is some information about the program, and videos of my recent singing performances.

The Lingua e Canto program will be taking place in Sant’ Angelo in Vado, Italy from July 8th through August 2nd. The program’s main focus is helping singers learn to speak, comprehend, and sing in Italian.  Each student will receive 6 private voice lessons, 7 private voice coachings, and 45 hours of Italian classes through Scuola Italia. Having an extensive knowledge of the Italian language is incredibly valuable because much of the operatic literature I will be singing is in Italian. Each weekday, students will attend 3 hours of Italian immersion classes.  Certified Italian teachers will teach, speaking only Italian, and also take us out in the town to help us interact with servers at restaurants, shop keepers, and other locals. Learning Italian in this way is valuable not only because of the immersion aspect, but also because my university does not offer Italian language courses. In addition to these learning opportunities, students will participate in multiple opera scene performances and concerts. Every weekday, students will attend acting lessons and staging rehearsals to focus on character development and movement. Selected singers will also work with guest master artist, David Malis.
