About The Artist

Natalie Cummings, Soprano

Miss Cummings graduated with honors from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois with a Bachelor's of Music in Vocal Performance and a minor in Political Science. During her time there, she studied voice with Dr. Sam Scifres, was a soloist and section leader with the internationally touring Collegiate Choir and took part in several opera productions. She spent a semester  in Vienna, Austria where she performed as part of the IES Vienna Music Performance Workshop.

After finishing her Bachelor's degree Miss Cummings returned to her home state to pursue her Master's of Music in Opera Performance at the University of Texas at Austin. She currently studies with Bill Lewis and has frequently performed as part of the Butler Opera Center.

Project

Natalie has been accepted to the 2012 Canadian Vocal Arts Institute, a highly selective summer opera program in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. This 19-day intensive program includes voice lessons, style and diction coachings, participation in and observation of master classes, working with a conductor, and performances for the participants. The frequency of these lessons amounts to about 6 months of vocal study in a normal setting. Lessons and classes are taught by accomplished artists from such opera houses and programs as the New York Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, Opera de Paris, Merola-San Francisco Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and Glyndebourne.

Budget

Tuition: $1,300 ($300 due April 1)
Transportation: $600 Round trip ticket to Montreal (tickets are upwards of $560)
Living expenses:  $1,000 ($15 per diem for 20 days and $700 discounted hotel rate)
Total budget: approx. $3,000 USD (tuition and living expenses are in Canadian dollars)
